The death of Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, allegedly caused by BSF torture near the number 288 pillar of the border in Hakimpur of Dinajpur district

On the night of February 14th 2012 at around 3.30 am, Mohammad Mizanur Rahman (32), son of Mohammad Mujibur Rahman and Mosammot Golsheyara Begum of West Khodaipur village, Nawabganj Thana, Dinajpur district was tortured near the border pillar number 288 at Aboiter in Hili Thana, Gangarampur district of India by the Border Security Force (BSF) members of the Agra camp. According to his family, after Mizanur’s companions brought him to the Upazila Health Complex for medical help, he died at around 5.30 in the morning of the 14th February.

Due to Odhikar’s fact finding missions it has been found that the witnesses whose names are published in Odhikar’s border related fact finding reports and newspapers, are being harassed by the Bangladesh Police. Therefore, to ensure their security, the names of the witnesses have been withheld
