Odhikar

Human rights defenders

Odhikar’s Human Rights Defenders Programme aims to strengthen the protection of human rights defenders (HRDs) in Bangladesh. The main objectives are: to provide a platform of exchange of ideas among HRDs in order to promote and protect their rights; to promote the role and the rights of HRDs under the UN Declaration on HRDs; and to coordinate the engagement of HRDs with the National Human Rights Institutions to better promote and protect the rights of HRDs in general.

Under this programme, Odhikar organises training courses for HRDs (both women and men) and conferences of HRDs.  Odhikar also has a nationwide network of 400 trained Human Rights Defenders in 40 districts; they work voluntarily to support the documentation and fact-finding team of Odhikar.
