Human rights monitoring report: January 2010

The January 2010 monthly human rights monitoring report describes the human rights situation in Bangladesh, specifically covering the following areas and cases:

  • Issue of human rights violations at the border not brought up during the Prime Minister’s visit to India
  • Bangladesh deprived of its deserved share of water; the Mujib-Indira Agreement yet to be established
  • The persons responsible for torturing the members of the BDR must be brought to justice
  • Retraction of testimonies by the BDR members
  • The accused in the BDR mutiny are withdrawing their lawyers as there is no scope for them to take part in cross-examinations
  • Continuance of political violence
  • High level of disturbance created at political rallies

The report closes with statistics on violations and a list of 8 recommendations to the government of Bangladesh.
